On Monday 28th November, CRGS played host to a languages conference, which attracted an audience of over eighty Sixth Form language students. About half of them came from Colchester and the rest from South Suffolk.
The guest speaker was Professor Sue Harris from Queen Mary University, London. She is the Chair of Film Studies at the university, and she spoke about film analysis mainly through the French film Entre Les Murs, which some of the students are studying as part of their A Level French course.
The main session was followed by three short workshops on the language of film studies in French, German and Spanish, led by members of the Languages Department at CRGS.
Ian Sydenham, Director of Languages Specialism, commented: "We were delighted to welcome Professor Harris. She is a recognised authority on French cinema and has an appreciation of film, which took us much deeper and further into the film we are studying. It was wonderful to have so many students there from other schools. They all appreciated meeting up with fellow students and there was a great atmosphere."
