Former MI6 Officer Publishes New Book
Posted On: 06/02/17
Old Colcestrian John de St Jorre, who was at CRGS from 1950 – 1954 has recently published a book, 'Darling Baby Mine', describing his long quest to find his missing mother. John is a prolific author and this is his tenth book.
Beyond the literary world, John has led a fascinating life. After leaving CRGS, he served in the armed forces in Malaya, before graduating from Oxford. He subsequently joined the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) and worked for three years in Africa. Later, he joined The Observer as a foreign correspondent, covering the Nigerian-Biafra conflict, 1973 Arab-Israeli War and the Iranian Revolution. He was also the newspaper’s Paris and New York correspondent.
John now lives in America, but he recently returned to the school whilst on a visit to Colchester and admired the two new buildings. However, he was particularly delighted to see that some things had not changed, recalling that the driveway and entrance have remained the same since he first walked up there in 1950.
On Wednesday 8th February, John will be appearing on the Radio 4 programme 'Midweek' to talk about his new book. The programme, presented by Libby Purves, is broadcast at 9.00am and again at 9.30pm.
John’s book is available to buy on his website http://johndestjorre.com, and is also on Amazon. It is discussed in an interview with the Colchester Gazette at http://www.gazette-news.co.uk/news/15058125.Former_grammar_school_pupil_s_desperate_search_to_find_long_lost_mother_outlined_in_new_book/.
