Schools' Rugby Injury Project

Colchester Royal Grammar School have recently been involved in ground-breaking research surrounding the issue of rugby injuries in schools’ rugby. The study, conducted by Bath University in conjunction with the RFU and published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, has found that a specific twenty-minute exercise programme can reduce injuries in teenage rugby players by more than 70%. Senior players from CRGS took part in the exercise programme each week of the season with all results and any injuries recorded.
CRGS are very pleased to have been invited to be a pilot school rolling out the programme of injury prevention exercises nationally. We are joining a community of schools proactively involved in reducing injury risk in school rugby with the added benefit of gaining access to cutting edge resources and support.
