West-End Star Helps Students Prepare

Acclaimed international vocalist and actress, Maggie Preece, visited the school this week to pass on the benefits of her expertise and experience to the cast of “Chicago” and to the school’s public speakers. The principal female vocalists in the school production were given individual coaching by Maggie and were all boosted by her input. She then spent time in a rehearsal with the cast and gave them her views of their performance. Finally, she looked in on the public speakers who were preparing for a competition and gave them practical feedback on their delivery. The Headmaster met Maggie when she put on a show at the Weston Holmes Community Stadium last year to raise money for the George Young Building at the school, and he was keen to introduce her to the students so they could benefit from her experience. Maggie enjoyed her visit and was very impressed with the students she met:
"I had a hugely enjoyable time coaching and working with a number of the students involved with the School's forthcoming production of "Chicago", during one of their final rehearsals. They were all eager and open to take on board new ideas and try them out, and I was very proud of them! I also worked with a group of students who were representing the School in a Public Speaking competition, and again, it was very rewarding and encouraging. I am sure "Chicago" will be a huge success, and I am sure the Public Speaking team will also triumph!"
“Chicago” is staged at the school next week and promises to be a sell-out every night. It is the school’s autumn term musical production and showcases the talents of the school’s best actors, singers, dancers and musicians. The Public Speaking Team of Luke Chambers, Josh Puckey and Amelia Davison did go on to qualify for the next round of the BPW competition so justified Maggie’s confidence in their ability.
