Old Colcestrians Hong Kong Branch Meeting
Posted On: 04/06/18
Since the decision to form a Hong Kong Branch of the Old Colcestrian Society was taken in March this year, some 30 former, current, and future CRGS students have indicated their wish to be founder members of the local society. Their attendance at the school spans seven decades with the oldest starting at CRGS in 1958 and the youngest about to commence studies in September of this year.
15 of the founder members attended an inaugural reception on Wednesday 30th May at the Helena May Club in Central Hong Kong. During the course of the evening, Bryan Carter, Hong Kong Chairman, read a message of welcome and encouragement from OCS Chairman, Colonel Richard Kemp. A general consensus was reached that the local branch objectives would include both the maintenance and expansion of school friendships as well as mentoring/counselling based on the Colcestrian Futures model. More formal aims and objectives will be drafted over time.
After a brief “getting-to-know-you” period, the evening descended into the sharing of many CRGS-related anecdotes (the Hospital Arms seemed to feature in many!), present and future career discussions, and the economic prospects for Hong Kong and its residents. A very happy and convivial time was had by all.
All too soon it was time to bring the gathering to a close. Plans are being established to meet again in the Autumn and to have a more formal dinner in the early part of 2019. Hong Kong Branch Hon. Secretary, Anthony Cheung, will be coordinating these events.
Lastly, we would be delighted to hear from other former CRGS students residing in or near Hong Kong - we can be contacted by email on colcestrians.hk@gmail.com or via various LinkedIn or Facebook pages.
